The MSP 10th anniversary event was held

02 September, 2025

The Maritime Safety and Security Policy Program, MSP, a collaborative program implemented by the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, GRIPS, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, and the Japan Coast Guard, JCG, celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. Graduates who have completed the program, experts working both domestically and internationally, current MSP students, and representatives from GRIPS, JICA, and JCG gathered on this occasion.   This meaningful occasion allowed them to reflect on the program's progress so far and look ahead to the next decade. In particular, the bond between graduates working in various countries was especially impressive as they shared the pleasure of seeing each other again in Japan after a long time.

At the event, alumni meetings were held with graduates from each batch taking the initiative, where discussions took place regarding the achievements built by the MSP and its future outlook. The comments from graduates with practical experience across diverse fields demonstrated how the networks developed during their studies were useful in their careers. The MSP 10th batch students proposed the theme for the alumni meetings and were able to make a significant contribution to this commemorative event through the working group presentations held on the second day.

Over the past decade, the MSP has produced numerous graduates who have taken leading roles in policy formulation and practical implementation both in and out of their respective countries. This accumulation has resulted in more than just the acquisition of knowledge; it has become the ability to generate social value in the field. At this event, discussions focused not only on sharing past achievements but also on looking ahead to future challenges and possibilities, confirming the further development of the graduate network.

The 10th anniversary of the MSP marks a milestone, and it is crucial to continuously strengthen this network and contribute to the peace and stability of social order as we look toward the next decade. This event served as an opportunity to reaffirm that understanding.
