After Three Months in Japan

23 December, 2025

Three months have passed since the participants of the Maritime Safety and Security Policy Program, MSP arrived in Japan.  While preparing research proposals and keeping up with classes and assignments, they are deepening their knowledge through exchanges with experts from various fields. These interactions have greatly expanded their understanding of contemporary maritime security and international affairs.

One of the most memorable experiences so far was a short voyage aboard the cruise ship Symphony Classica in Tokyo Bay with personnel from the United States Armed Forces. Holding discussions at sea strongly highlighted the importance of the maritime domain in international security and policy.

As winter approaches, the participants are also experiencing Japanese culture. Visiting winter illuminations in and around Tokyo offers a welcome break from their academic routines and a valuable opportunity to appreciate Japan’s unique charm. Strong bonds have already formed within the batch. Celebrating birthdays together and enjoying Tokyo’s karaoke venues and diverse food culture have become part of daily life. They are also looking forward to spending Christmas and the New Year together in Japan, using this break to further strengthen their friendships.
